Independent Skilled Visa (Subclass 189)
This permanent visa category is assessed against the applicant’s skills. It is aimed at international/ overseas students who have finished their studies in Australia in the last six months, and as the name suggests, it is independent of sponsorship or other criteria and relies solely on the applicant’s skill base alone.
Who is eligible for an Independent Skilled Visa?
The visa is for skilled workers who are currently in or outside Australia and who satisfies the point test )system). Processing of applications are by invitation only and an intended applicant must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation.
Other Requirements for an Independent Skilled Visa

Benefits of the Independent Skilled Visa

State Sponsored Visa (Subclass 190)
This visa allows skilled workers, who do not meet the point test for the skilled – independent visa or as per demand of occupation, to apply for permanent residency through state and territory nomination.
This permanent visa category is assessed against the applicant’s skills and requires the nomination from a state or territory (NSW, VIC, SA, WA, QLD, TAS, NT and ACT).
Visa Sponsor Requirements
Your sponsor must be a State or Territory government. The visa is assessed on a point test basis and currently 60 points are required to qualify as well as meet the standard conditions.

The applicant will also require an approved nomination from the state or territory government before applying for visa
Other Requirements for a State-Nominated Visa
You must be under the age of 44 years at the time of making application and have good English Skills (minimum competent English). You must have skills or qualifications comparable to an Australian Qualification in a skilled occupation on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL).
Benefits of the State-Nominated Visa
This immigration visa provides immediate permanent residency to the applicant and his or her immediate family. There is no waiting period associated with this visa. However, the applicant and the associated family have to make a commitment of staying with the sponsored entity for1 years.
Regional Sponsored Visa (Subclass 491)
This is a four year provisional visa which gives the applicant temporary immigration and residency with an option to a pathway leading to permanent immigration after meeting certain requirements. This visa is designed to encourage migrants to live and work in regional areas of Australia where there are significant shortages of skills and substantial numbers of job vacancies.
Requirements for a Regional Sponsored Skilled Visa
The visa requires sponsorship from an eligible relative living in a designated region of Australia or from a State or Territory Government (NSW, VIC, SA, WA, QLD, TAS, NT and ACT).
This visa is based on points test with currently 55 points to be the requirement to be eligible as well as satisfy the standard conditions for immigration.
